Hong Kong Disneyland Cast Member Improves the Customer Journey with Technology

At Disney, technologists shape the guest experience through the creation and development of innovative tools and products. From updating the park reservation system to providing an easier online shopping experience, and much, much more, the Technology & Digital organization works together to bring cutting-edge technology to Disney experiences around the world.

Kingsley Chan is one of the technologists bringing excitement to life every day! In his role as a senior software engineer on the technology development team at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, he recently celebrated being with the company for a year and a half. During this time, his technical expertise has influenced the customer journey by improving the software for MyDisney Account—a hub used for multiple services such as making a park reservation, scheduling a character meet and greet and accessing the Hong Kong Disneyland eStore.

“Working at a multinational company like Disney has given me exposure to new opportunities and the chance to work on projects in multiple areas of the company—such as within the park and resorts—instead of having to focus on a single business,” said Kingsley.

Outside of his work on the technology team, Kingsley enjoys spending time at the park with his wife and five-year-old son, who was overjoyed recently to discover that he is now tall enough to ride the Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars at Grizzly Gulch.

With each park visit, Kingsley gets to see his work in action as he books a park reservation for himself and his family. While they are at the park, he likes to talk with cast members and ensure any new updates to the MyDisney Account improved their work experience and fit their overall needs, as well as the guests’ needs.

“I’m quite happy to see the impact of our work. Hearing from others about their experience is great because it provides us with an opportunity to improve,” he said.

This mindset extends to his entire team as they continue to push boundaries and create best-in-class solutions to hard challenges. Recently, his leaders implemented knowledge-sharing discussions for the team, so they can go into detail about how to improve and align their techniques.

“The cast member morale is different from other companies,” Kingsley said. He shared that his leaders have continued to help him grow and develop his career by asking him to work directly with the lines of business to understand their technology needs and find solutions for them.

When asked if he had any advice for aspiring cast members, Kingsley shared that it’s important to try to speak up to your manager or in a team meeting when you have an idea. Even if a suggestion isn’t implemented, it may help others to think of an alternate idea to improve the workflow.

As for his own career ambitions, he looks forward to the upcoming launch of a few new projects and continuing to discover the endless possibilities working for a global company brings.
