Walt Disney on Fantasyland: “Here is the world of imagination, hopes and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment, the age of chivalry, magic and make-believe are reborn and fairy tales come true. Fantasyland is dedicated to the young at heart – to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true.”
ANAHEIM, Calif. – One of the five original lands at Disneyland Park that opened on July 17, 1955, the fairytale village of Fantasyland offers family-friendly adventures for guests of all ages, but especially young families. The wonder and magic of Disney’s animated stories and characters come to life here, whether it’s soaring through the skies with Dumbo or riding mine carts with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
What’s New: As part of the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, there are multiple new additions for guests to experience in Fantasyland involving the “it’s a small world” attraction. Starting April 25, 2025, guests can look out for Miguel and Dante from “Coco” inside the attraction. “Tapestry of Happiness,” an all-new projection experience on the facade of “it’s a small world,” will launch with the celebration on May 16, 2025. Beginning July 17, 2025, a third and final verse of the song, “It’s a Small World,” written by legendary composer Richard M. Sherman will premiere in the attraction.
Attractions:
- Matterhorn Bobsleds – Unique to Disneyland, these speeding alpine sleds hurl through the snow-capped mountain. It is the first tubular steel coaster ever created and exactly 100 times shorter than the 14,700-foot-tall real Matterhorn mountain in Switzerland (offers Lightning Lane access with the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Premier Pass*).
- “it’s a small world” – Marking its 60th anniversary at Disneyland Resort, “The happiest cruise that ever sailed” is a song-filled journey around the globe (offers Lightning Lane access with the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Premier Pass).
- Mad Tea Party – Guests spin in oversized teacups beneath a canopy of colorful lanterns.
- Peter Pan’s Flight – An original Fantasyland attraction based on Walt Disney Animation Studios’ classic film, “Peter Pan.”
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant – A fanciful flight for guests of all ages.
- Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride – The Disney Animation film “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad” inspired this vehicular attraction.
- Pinocchio’s Daring Journey – Here, guests relive the adventures of the wooden puppet who dreamed of becoming a real boy.
- Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough – Three-dimensional displays and special effects tell the spellbinding tale of Princess Aurora.
- Storybook Land Canal Boats – A tour through miniature versions of fairytale locales from classic Disney movies.
- Alice in Wonderland – A trip into the nonsensical world of Disney Animation’s “Alice in Wonderland”.
- King Arthur Carrousel – Features more than 60 horses, and no two are alike!
- Casey Jr. Circus Train – This festive train is pulled by the little engine from “Dumbo.”
Entertainment:
- Fantasy Faire invites guests to visit Disney Princesses at the Royal Hall, and enjoy live stage shows at the Royal Theatre.
Dining:
- Edelweiss Snacks is a quick-service spot for foodies to enjoy a variety of tasty options, including jumbo turkey legs and cheesy garlic pretzel bread (Mobile order available on the Disneyland app**).
- Red Rose Taverne serves casual fare with a dash of French flair, such as burgers, salads and the “grey stuff” (Mobile order available).
- Maurice’s Treats has tasty treats like pastries and the popular Boysen Apple Freeze.
- Troubadour Tavern, next to the Fantasyland Theatre features a menu of snacks and quick bites (Mobile order available).
Shopping:
- Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – A magical, add-on experience awaits kids ages 3-12 as they can receive magical makeovers to become elegant princesses and shining knights.
- Merlin’s Marvelous Miscellany – Near the castle, this shop features fantasy-inspired merchandise in a setting inspired by Disney Animation’s “The Sword and the Stone.”
- Fairy Tale Treasures – Brimming with royal apparel, toys and merchandise, this store is a dream come true.
- The Mad Hatter – Here, guests can find a whimsical assortment of headwear.
Imaginative landscaping: From topiaries to fanciful colors in the flowerbeds, the enchantment of Fantasyland is created with soft landscape based on classic European gardens. All the plants appear to have been “miniaturized” at the Storybook Land Canal Boats attraction, while the art of topiary transforms hedges into animals and geometric designs at “it’s a small world.”
Did you know?
- As part of the reimagination of Snow White’s Enchanted Wish in 2021, more than 50 new animal and figure sculptures were added throughout the attraction, as well as state-of-the-art audio and visual technology.
- Fantasyland has the most “dark rides” of any land in the park. They are called “dark rides” because they feature brilliantly painted show scenes that are illuminated by black light inside the darkness of the attraction. Dark rides on opening day were Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Snow White’s Enchanted Wish (originally known as Snow White’s Scary Adventures). Alice in Wonderland was added in 1958 and Pinocchio’s Daring Journey in 1983.
- The drawbridge to Sleeping Beauty Castle is fully functional and has only been raised and lowered on two occasions to date – Disneyland Park’s opening day in 1955, and during the dedication of New Fantasyland in 1983.
Cast member tips:
- For children, buy princess dresses a half-size larger than normal for extra comfort.
- Consider this the ultimate summer cooler: On a hot day, “it’s a small world” is a 15-minute ride through an air-conditioned attraction.
- During the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, the façade of “it’s a small world” is a great spot to view nighttime spectaculars, including “Wondrous Journeys.”
- Advanced reservations can be made for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique through the Disneyland website. They are highly recommended to ensure young guests can experience the shop!
- Fantasyland has many options for family fun with young children, as many attractions have no age nor height restriction.
