Disney Cruise Line Earns Honor from Port of Vancouver for Environmental Commitment

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority recently awarded Disney Cruise Line a Blue Circle Award for the eighth consecutive year. This award was given for our emission reduction and energy conservation efforts while the Disney Wonder was docked in the Port of Vancouver. Terminal operators and marine carriers that exemplify excellent environmental stewardship and also participate in the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s EcoAction Program and Energy Action Initiative are recognized for this award.

For summer Alaskan voyages, the Disney Wonder is able to eliminate air emissions, while still maintaining normal operations, through utilizing energy that is generated from renewable sources in Vancouver – such as wind and hydro power. As the energy is harnessed from these renewable sources, the engines can be completely turned off because the ship is able to “plug in” to the port’s electrical grid via shore power technology.

Reducing emissions through using this technology is only one of the many ways that Disney Cruise Line helps to protect the environment.
