Video Advisory: Phoenix Dad Overcomes Tough Times to Run with Family in Inaugural Disneyland Race

WHAT:  Mike Chowaniec of Phoenix, AZ, beat two different kinds of cancers to make it to Disneyland this week with his family to run the Avengers Super Heroes 5K. In June 2013, he battled thyroid cancer and then just 10 months later in April he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Drawing on his “super hero’’ strength, he’s won his battle twice, and took on the 5K this morning with his wife Robin and their son.

  • Mike grew up with a love of comic book characters that continued into adulthood.
  • The Chowaniec family used the idea of running in the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend as motivation to keep fighting against the challenges they faced.
  • Today, the family said they ran just to celebrate being alive

WHEN:   Nov. 14-16, 2014 – Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend
